Ham and Cheese Pinwheels are a hot ham and cheese sandwich's dolled-up, more put-together cousin. Why? Because savory Swiss cheese is melted together with smokey ham atop buttery pizza dough. Cut into the most picturesque golden-brown, crispy pinwheels, they're smothered with an incredible, buttery poppy seed sauce. Some say the sauce is responsible for heightening it above its kin; others give credit to its ability to be served as a delectable party appetizer. Everyone seems to agree though that Ham and Cheese Pinwheels are fun, surprisingly simple, and something you'll always want around!
Ingredients• 1 tube refrigerated pizza dough • 3/4 pound ham, very thinly sliced • 8 ounces sweet cheese, very thinly sliced • 8 tablespoons butter, melted • 2 tablespoons brown sugar • 1 tablespoon dijon mustard • 2 tablespoons poppy seeds • 1 tablespoon parsley, optional, chopped
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Coat a 9x13-inch pan with cooking spray.
Unroll the pizza dough onto a non-stick surface until it is flat and in the shape of a large rectangle, roughly 13x8-inches in size.
Layer the ham on top of the pizza dough, covering the dough completely.
Layer the cheese on top of the ham and pizza dough, covering the ham and dough completely.
Starting at one of the longer ends, tightly roll up the ham-and-cheese-covered dough, jelly-roll style. Pinch the end to seal.
Cut the loaf crosswise into 12 equal-sized pieces.
Arrange the pieces on the prepared pan.
Whisk together the butter, brown sugar, dijon mustard, and poppy seeds.
Pour the butter mix evenly over the pinwheels.
Bake the pinwheels until they are golden brown, about 25-30 minutes.
Sprinkle with parsley and serve.
