Angel Food Cake

Angel Food Cake got its name because it is just so light, fluffy, and heavenly! • 1 1/4 cups large egg whites, from about 9 • 1 1/2 cups sugar, divided • 1 cup cake flour • 1 1/4 teaspoons cream of tartar • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract • 1/4 teaspoon salt


Step 1

Allow the egg whites to stand at room temperature in a bowl for 30 minutes.

Step 2

Arrange the oven rack in the lowest position. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 3

Using your sifter, combine 1/2 cup of the sugar and the flour together. Set aside for later.

Step 4

Add the cream of tartar, vanilla, almond extract, and salt to the egg whites.

Step 5

Beat the egg whites with a hand mixer or with a stand mixer until soft peaks form.

Step 6

Gradually add in the remaining 1 cup of the sugar, a couple of tablespoons at a time. Continue beating until stiff peaks form.

Step 7

Gently and gradually fold in the flour mixture, 1/2 cup at a time.

Step 8

Spoon the batter into an ungreased tube pan.

Step 9

Bake until it’s slightly golden and the top is dry, about 35-40 minutes.

Step 10

Remove the pan from the oven and immediately invert.

Step 11

Allow your cake to cool completely.

Step 12

Add toppings of your choice and serve!
